Wonju City in Gangwon Province has launched the “Sam Maru Village” care center for children, located inside the multipurpose sports complex in the designated corporate city area. The facility will begin full operations on the 18th.
Covering an area of 173.88 square meters, the center is staffed by one center director and three care teachers. It is designed for children aged 6 to 12, or elementary school students from dual-income or other families in need of after-school care.
During the school term, the center operates from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during school vacations. All services are provided free of charge.
Applications can be submitted through the city’s online childcare platform “Wonju Ion Care” or by visiting the center in person. For more information, contact Sam Maru Village at 033-731-1333.
A city official stated, “The care center is a public facility where children can be safely entrusted after school, offering protection, education, and snacks to fill the gap in after-school care. It will contribute to building a community-based care system and resolving blind spots in elementary school childcare.”
