Sergei Rebrov has stepped down as head coach of the Ukrainian national football team, though he retains his roles as vice-president of the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF) and a member of the Executive Committee.
“We thank Serhiy Stanislavovych for his work and contribution to the development of young footballers. Today we need to move forward and make new decisions that will form the foundation of the national team’s future,” said UAF President Andriy Shevchenko.
The name of the new head coach will be announced at a later date. Ukrainian media have named Myron Markevych, Oleksandr Shovkovskyi, and Igor Jovićević as possible successors to Rebrov.
On March 26, Ukraine lost to Sweden 1-3, eliminating their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.
Rebrov took charge of the Ukrainian national team in June 2023. Under his leadership, the team played 34 matches, recording 16 wins, 8 draws, and 10 losses.
He led Ukraine to the Euro 2024 finals, where they finished bottom of a group featuring Belgium, Slovakia, and Romania.
