Two Minutes of Onslaught: Abudala’s Opener and Kim Daewon’s Strike Lead Gangwon to 2-0 Home Win Over Daejeon

Gangwon FC kept their composure before exploding with two goals in the dying minutes, defeating Daejeon Hana Citizen 2-0 at the Gangneung Hi One Arena. The victory extended Gangwon’s unbeaten run to four matches (two wins, two draws) in the 14th round of the Hana Bank K-League 1 2026 season.

With the result, Gangwon moved up to fifth place with a record of 5 wins, 6 draws, and 3 losses (21 points), while Daejeon remained in eighth place with 4 wins, 4 draws, and 6 losses (16 points).

Gangwon lined up in a 4-2-4-2 formation, featuring Go Youngjun, Choe Byeongchan, Kim Daewon, Seo Minwoo, Lee Yuhyun, Mo Jaehyeon, Song Junseok, Lee Kihyuk, Kang Tuji, Kang Junhyeok, and goalkeeper Park Cheonghyo. Daejeon countered with a 4-2-3-1 formation, starting Diogo, Rubikson, Seo Jinsu, Jeong Jaehee, Kim Bongsoo, Kang Yoonseong, Park Kyuhyun, Anton, Kim Mindeok, Kim Munhwan, and goalkeeper Lee Changgeun.

Gangwon seized control early with intense pressing. In the 16th minute, a corner kick from Kim Daewon was collected by Kang Junhyeok, whose left-footed shot was blocked by a defender. The loose ball was met by Kang Tuji, but goalkeeper Lee Changgeun was quicker to collect. Gangwon continued to dominate through long balls and aggressive pressure. In the 36th minute, Mo Jaehyeon cut inside from the right side of the box and fired a left-footed shot, but Lee Changgeun made a fine save.

Daejeon finally threatened just before halftime. In the 44th minute, Seo Jinsu’s cross from the left was met by a powerful header from Diogo that struck the crossbar. A minute later, another cross from Seo Jinsu found Rubikson, whose right-footed shot deflected off Park Cheonghyo’s hand and hit the crossbar again.

In the second half, Gangwon resumed their attack. In the 52nd minute, Kim Daewon’s cross from the left was met by Go Youngjun, who set up Choe Byeongchan for a header that went wide. Daejeon made the first substitution in the 59th minute, bringing on Joao Victor and Yoo Ganghyeon for Jeong Jaehee and Diogo. Shortly after, Yoo Ganghyeon flicked on a long ball for Seo Jinsu, who played Joao Victor through on goal, but the latter’s left-footed effort was saved by Park Cheonghyo.

Gangwon responded with changes of their own in the 65th minute, introducing Kim Geonhee and Abudala for Go Youngjun and Choe Byeongchan to strengthen the frontline. Kim Daewon sent a shot wide in the 68th minute after beating his marker. In the 81st minute, Song Junseok’s cross was headed by Abudala but well off target. Daejeon suffered a blow when Kim Munhwan went down injured, replaced by Babsin in the 75th minute, while Park Kyuhyun made way for Lee Myeongjae to shore up the left flank.

Gangwon missed another chance in the 80th minute when a cross from the right was cleared, but the loose ball fell to Kim Daewon, whose powerful right-footed drive whistled just wide. Finally, the deadlock was broken in the 86th minute. A free kick from Lee Kihyuk found Kim Geonhee, who headed the ball into the box. Mo Jaehyeon collected it and cut it back for Abudala, who swept the ball home with his right foot for the opener.

Gangwon struck again just a minute later. A long ball from the back was controlled by Kim Geonhee, who slipped the ball to Kim Daewon. The winger raced down the left and calmly slotted past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

The match ended soon after, with Gangwon celebrating a convincing home victory.
