Russian tennis player Diana Schneider failed to advance to the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome.
The 22-year-old, seeded 19th, lost to 15th-seeded Naomi Osaka of Japan in straight sets, 1-6, 2-6, in the third-round match lasting just 54 minutes.
Osaka will next face the winner of the match between Elisabetta Cocciaretto (Italy) and Iga Swiatek (Poland).
Schneider, ranked 20th in the world, is the third-highest ranked Russian woman and has five WTA titles to her name.
The Rome tournament, which boasts a prize fund of €7.22 million, will conclude on May 17. It is classified as a WTA 1000 event, the second most prestigious tier behind Grand Slams and the WTA Finals.
