Samu Aghehowa, the Spanish striker for Porto, suffered a serious knee injury during a match against Sporting Lisbon, which will keep him out of the World Cup with Spain. The club confirmed that he sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the derby.
“I suffered a serious injury. I still can’t believe it. I am devastated, speechless,” said Aghehowa, who took to social media to share his emotions following the devastating setback.
“I will be sidelined for a few months. It hurts that I can’t help the team as I would like, fighting on the field,” he added.
Aghehowa, 21, has been in outstanding form this season, scoring 20 goals in 32 matches across all competitions, making him the top scorer in Europe’s major leagues ahead of Ferran Torres (16) and Lamine Yamal (15).
“Trusting God’s plan, being strong and positive is what will make me come back stronger than ever,” he wrote in a full statement.
